Anafranil (Clomipramine) intervenes in the transmission of signals in the brain by increasing the duration of the effect of mood-enhancing messenger substances in the brain. This counteracts depression, anxiety and compulsions, pain is perceived as less stressful and mood is generally improved.

Dosage of Anafranil (Clomipramine)

The dosage will usually be increased slowly by your doctor and adjusted to a maintenance dose that suits you.

Medicines with different active ingredient strengths are available for the individual dosage steps.

Depending on your illness and the stage of treatment, your doctor will usually dose the medicine as follows:

For depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobia and panic disorders – start of treatment:

  • Adult
    • Single dose: ½-1 tablet
    • Total dose: once a day
    • Time: in the evening, before or after the meal

Maximum dose for adults: A dose of 4 tablets per day should not be exceeded.

    • Time: in the evening, before or after the meal

For prolonged pain – start of treatment:

    • Single dose: ½-1 tablet
    • Total dose: once a day
    • Time: in the evening, before or after the meal

For prolonged pain – follow-up treatment:

    • Single dose: 1 tablet
    • Total dose: 2 times a day
    • Time: morning and evening, before or after the meal

Take the medicine with liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).

Duration of use?
The duration of use depends on the type of complaint and/or duration of the illness and is therefore only determined by your doctor.

    • Increased photosensitivity of the skin
  • Orthostatic hypotension (circulatory disorders due to low blood pressure)
  • cardiac arrhythmias
  • pulse acceleration
  • palpitations
  • Disturbances in urination
  • Liver dysfunction such as:
    • increase in liver values
  • changes in the blood picture, such as:
    • Leukopenia (reduction in the number of white blood cells), first signs may be a sore throat or fever: contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these signs.
  • Leaking of milk from the breast (galactorrhea)
