Flomax. Dosage, Side Effects, Interactions
Flomax is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), bladder outlet obstruction and kidney stones. Flomax can be used alone or with other medications.
Flomax belongs to a class of drugs called alpha 1 blockers.
FLOMAX capsules (tamsulosin hydrochloride, USP) are indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). FLOMAX capsules are not indicated for the treatment of hypertension.
DOSAGE AND APPLICATION
FLOMAX capsules 0.4 mg once daily is the recommended dose to treat the signs and symptoms of BPH. It should be administered approximately half an hour after the same meal every day. FLOMAX capsules should not be crushed, chewed, or opened.
For patients not responding to the 0.4 mg dose after 2 to 4 weeks, the dose of FLOMAX capsules can be increased to 0.8 mg once daily. FLOMAX capsules 0.4 mg should not be used in combination with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole)
If administration of FLOMAX capsules is interrupted or interrupted for several days at a dose of 0.4 mg or 0.8 mg, therapy should be restarted at the once daily dose of 0.4 mg.
