How is Ventolin (Albuterol) used?

In the long description you will find all information about the side effects.

In the long description you will find all information about the side effects.

How should it be stored?

Ventolin dosing aerosol should not be stored above 30 °C, protected from frost and direct sunlight and kept out of the reach of children.

Ventolin metering aerosol has an antispasmodic effect on the bronchial muscles and is used to prevent and treat acute shortness of breath in asthma, chronic bronchitis with or without bloating in the lungs.

By inhalation, the active ingredient gets directly into the lungs and the effect sets in quickly.

Ventolin dosing aerosol should only be used if prescribed by a doctor.

When must Ventolin metering aerosol not be used?

If you are hypersensitive to any component of Ventolin dosing aerosol and if you are also taking certain medicines to treat heart disease (so-called non-selective beta blockers, such as propranolol), Ventolin dosing aerosol must not be used.

When is caution required when using Ventolin aerosol?

The relaxing effect on the bronchial muscles usually lasts 4 hours. If the effect of the prescribed dosage lasts less than 3 hours, you should under no circumstances increase the dose, but tell your doctor so that they can take additional measures if necessary.

If Ventolin is administered at the same time as other medicines, their effects can influence each other. This applies, for example, to diuretic drugs and those used to treat thyroid disorders, shaking paralysis (Parkinson’s disease), certain heart diseases (heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias), rheumatic and inflammatory diseases and diabetes. Your doctor will know what precautions to take if you need to take one or more of these medicines with Ventolin.
Important when treating shortness of breath that comes on suddenly or gets worse quickly:

If additional inhalations do not clearly improve the shortness of breath, you should not hesitate to go to the doctor or the nearest hospital immediately.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you

  • suffer from other diseases (overactive thyroid, diabetes, high blood pressure or other cardiovascular diseases),
  • have allergies or
  • take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally; especially those belonging to one of the groups listed above.

Can Ventolin dosing aerosol be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or want to become pregnant, you may only use Ventolin dosing aerosol after consulting your doctor, or if you are breastfeeding your child.

How is Ventolin (Albuterol) used?

The best success is achieved through correct application. Please read the instructions for use carefully before first use, correct use is very important.

The doctor will prescribe you a dosage adapted to the severity of the disease.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the following dosage guidelines apply:

Adults and children over 12 years of age: In the event of an attack of acute shortness of breath, 1-2 aerosol puffs are inhaled, and to prevent exercise-induced asthma, 2 puffs are inhaled before physical activity. For long-term treatment, 2 aerosol puffs are inhaled 3 to 4 times a day. If you need 2 doses more than 8 times a day, you should tell your doctor.

Children 4-12 years: The metered dose aerosol should be used under adult supervision. In the event of an attack of acute shortness of breath, 1 aerosol puff is inhaled and, to prevent exercise-induced asthma, 1 puff is inhaled before physical activity. For long-term treatment, 1 aerosol puff is inhaled 3 to 4 times a day. If necessary, the doctor can increase the single dose to 2 aerosol puffs. If more than 8 aerosol puffs are required daily, this should be reported to the doctor.

Ventolin is overdosed if you experience palpitations or tremors in your hands. In general, these undesirable effects disappear within a few hours. In the event of a severe overdose, you should tell your doctor.

Do not change the prescribed dosage on your own. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Instructions for use:

1. Remove the cap from the mouthpiece and ensure that there are no loose particles on the inside or outside of the inhaler (including the mouthpiece).

Then shake the metered dose aerosol well to remove all loose particles and mix the contents well

Before the very first use and also if the metered dose aerosol has not been used for more than a week, 2 aerosol puffs (for first use) or 1 aerosol puff (for further use) must be released into the air before the metered dose aerosol is ready for use .

2. Hold the metered dose inhaler upright with the mouthpiece pointing down. Exhale slowly and fully and then immediately close the mouthpiece …

3. … put it in your mouth and close your lips tightly around it. Inhale slowly and as soon as you start inhaling, press your index finger and thumb firmly together to release a dose of the active ingredient

During this process, continue to breathe in calmly and deeply so that the active substance can penetrate deep into the bronchial tree. At the end of the inhalation, remove the mouthpiece from your mouth and hold your breath for as long as possible. Then breathe out calmly.

Important: Do not rush steps 2 and 3. It is important to start inhaling just before the dose of active ingredient is released and to inhale as slowly as possible.

4. If a second aerosol puff is to be inhaled, continue to hold the metered dose aerosol upright and repeat the same process after waiting half a minute. After use, put the lid back on the mouthpiece until it clicks into place.

5. Cleaning the dosing aerosol:

Clean the metered dose aerosol at least once a week. To clean, pull the metal container out of the plastic housing. Rinse the lid and plastic housing separately with warm water and leave to dry completely in a warm place (avoid heat). Then put the metal container back into the plastic housing and put on the lid.

Never rinse metal containers with water or immerse them in water.

If you have trouble inhaling and squeezing the metered dose aerosol at the same time, your doctor can prescribe an antechamber to help you.

Use in children:

The application should be done under the supervision of an adult. The dosing aerosol can also be held with both hands

Children under the age of 6 are usually unable to handle the metered dose aerosol correctly. If your child has problems with the application, the doctor can prescribe you a different form of administration (e.g. Ventolin Diskus or an antechamber).
